Whirligiggle Cabbage Salad
1 Head of Cabbage, yielding ~4 cups (any type)
1 Cup Cooked Snow Peas
2 Scallions OR ¼ Cup Sliced Onion (OPTIONAL)
1 Carrot
Fresh Garlic (to taste)
Zinnia always says, “You can never have too much
fun, nor too much garlic.”
½ Tablespoon Fresh Ginger (or as much as you
like/to taste)
¾ Cup Rice Vinegar
¾ Cup Sesame Oil
¾ Cup Olive Oil
1 teaspoon Soy Sauce (or as much as you like/to
taste)
½ Tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds
Salt (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
YOU MUST ASK AN ADULT TO HELP YOU DO THE
FOLLOWING STEPS:
INTO ONE LARGE BOWL:
Shred or chop the cabbage into bite size pieces.
Chop the scallions or onion.
Shred the carrot.
Ask an adult to steam/cook the snow peas and add
them to the bowl.
INTO A SMALLER BOWL:
(After scraping the skin off the fresh ginger with a
spoon and discarding it) Grate the ginger into the
bowl with a microplane.
Crush and chop or grate the garlic into the same
bowl with the ginger.
Add vinegar and oil; the ratio of oil to vinegar is
usually 1 parts vinegar to 2 parts oil.
Add the soy sauce.
Sprinkle in the sesame seeds.
Add salt & pepper.
Whisk the dressing together.
Pour the dressing over the cabbage and other
vegetables and mix the salad well.
